Bio

Terri Melgar, a Clinical Psychologist, has embarked upon a new interest: to become a fine artist.  She first began studying art at the California Art Institute  and continued there for many years, honing her artistic skills and deepening her love for art.  Since retiring, she has started painting full time.  She has studied with Elizabeth Robbins, Huihan Lui, Daniel Gerhartz, Caroline Anderson, C.W. Mundy,Laura Robb and David Leffel, Brightlightfineart.com.

She works exclusively with oils, exploring the interplay of light and color.  She is passionate about the ways an artist can guide a viewer’s eye.  Her style is impressionistic realism.  She is currently a member of Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America, Women Oil Painters, and the Creative Art League of Jessamine County.  She has exhibited Bella Muse Art Gallery in Utah, and the Art and Bloom event at the University of Kentucky Singletary Performing Arts Center in Lexington, KY; the Historic Jail House in Nicholasville, KY; and the Rice House in Wilmore, KY.

Her most recent accomplishment is the completion of her second intensive 18-day art history and oil painting workshop in Spain and Italy with Huihan Lui and Elizabeth Robbins.  While there, she toured the Prado and Sorolla museums in Madrid and studied historical cultural landscapes.  She is currently planning on going to a women’s only oil painting tour in France with the Women Oil Painters in 2014.
